RUNNING CLUB UPDATE w/ PRESIDENT MATT RIFFLE
It was a pleasure to be surrounded by the trashiest people in Wheeling this past Saturday during the Waterfront Hall Run Club’s first “Trash Run” of 2025. If you notice downtown shining a little brighter than normal, be sure to thank these fine people.
Pictured below are the three heroes of the day, who hauled this mattress up from the riverside like it was their own garbage themed Mount Everest. For anyone concerned - this moldy mattress was partially in the river and could not have been used to help a person in need. The ducks, turtles, and all other mutated Ohio River creatures surely thank you.
Those of us who’ve participated in past cleanups all noticed the same thing: there was way less litter downtown this time around. That feels like a win.
It can be a little discouraging when weekly attendance is low and some of the momentum we’ve built feels like it’s fading. But days like Saturday, where people show up for each other and their city, remind me of what we’re trying to build with the club: a place where everyone is welcome, where we get off our screens and move our bodies, where we create community and support small business.
Can’t say thank you enough to those who joined us this Saturday, and if you missed it we’d love to see you at the next one. We’ll be here Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m. and Saturdays at 10:00 a.m.
